1776

Henry Hudson was a Dutch explorer. He sailed to many places, but in 1609 he reached New York.

There is a great website celebrating the 400th anniversary of that voyage. Henry Hudson 400 has loads of features:

• Hudson’s voyage routes are displayed using Google maps.
• Historical maps are overlaid on Google contemporary maps.
• Users can upload stories about their own American and Dutch ancestry.
• Undergraduates can enter an essay competition (top prize of $5000).

Check it out. It is worth it just for the interactive maps.
