Auto Polo on Coney Island

I found these auto polo photos among the Digital Collections of the Library of Congress. They are all part of the George Grantham Bain Collection.

A 1912 article, in the New York Times, said,
“It would be hard to devise a game in which the players took bigger chances of mishap. The factor of danger may prove either a damper or a stimulus.”

  1. I’ve seen Quad Polo played in AK. Four-wheelers and a volley ball (riders kicked at the ball as they pass).
