Book Review: Historic Photos of Washington D.C. Monuments
Historic Photos of Washington D.C. Monuments
, by Tracey Gold BennettThis book is a collection of about 200 large black and white photos drawn from the Library of Congress, the National Arcives, the Smithsonian Institute, and the Department of Defense.
Most of the photos in this book feature the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. A mix of other monuments make up the last section of the book.
The photos go back to the mid-1800s. You can see the monuments going through stages of construction and how they fit into the history of Washington D.C.
Personally, I prefer some of the other titles in the Historic Photos series, because they have more variety. After about the thirtieth photo of the Washington Monument, I was a little tired of that obelisk. However, if you are interested in Washington D.C., then I do recommend this book. It is a great historical record of these iconic structures.
