Lock N’ Load - New Show on The History Channel

GUNNY

The History Channel has a new show called Lock N’ Load. The show explores the engineering and development of weapons. The first episode will show onJuly 31st, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

The show is hosted by Gunnery Sgt. R. Lee Ermey, who is famous for his role in Full Metal Jacket and who also hosts Mail Call on the History Channel.

I have seen the first episode, “Machine Guns”. You get to watch Gunny fire off an 1890 Gatling Gun, a Thompson submachine gun, a Chauchat, and many others. He explains the history of each gun before tearing into his targets.

The host gets on my nerves when he is yelling about how cuddly and lovable machine guns are. However, the show does balance the silliness of shooting paint jars and watermelons with actually showing you how machine guns have evolved - going from hand-cranked contraptions to modern weapons capable of shooting 3000 rounds per minute. The show also does a great job of using slow motion 3-D graphics to show how the guns work mechanically. Check it out.

  1. Ermey is just a fun guy to watch on TV and it’s a riot to watch him blow things up and shoot guns! I really enjoyed the first episode I saw where he went through the history and development of artillery. This is a step in the right direction for the History Channel!
