Cahokia: Ancient America’s Great City on the Mississippi

By Timothy R. Pauketat (BUY)
A thousand years ago, Cahokia was a city on the Mississippi River with a population of 20,000. This huge city was abandoned long before Europeans showed up - giving anthropologists a great opportunity to come up with many different theories on the city’s decline. The earthen mounds that remain are a World Heritage Site.
