New York Before It Was A City

The Mannahatta Project is a great website that wants to show you what New York looked like in 1609. Interactive maps allow you to see the modern version aligned with what was once there.
The goal of the project is to discover something new about a place we all know so well, whether we live in New York or see it on television, and, through that discovery, to alter our way of life. - Eric W. Sanderson
- Some features of the website:
- Video lectures
- Lesson downloads
- Interactive maps
The website is tied to a new book - Mannahatta: A Natural History of New York City, by Eric W. Sanderson. It looks gorgeous, and the New York Times has a review of the book.
