Statue of Liberty’s Crown To Reopen

On July 4th, 2009, the Statue of Liberty’s crown will reopen to the public. However, only 10 people will be allowed at the top at once.
The entire statue was closed after the September 11th attacks. In 2004, the base was reopened. The crown was kept closed because the narrow stairway leading to the top makes it difficult for people to exit in an emergency. The stairway was not built to handle the number of visitors the statue receives.
